    Description

This is a choice specimen that we acquired from a private collection & was mined in the 1970s.  It has pretty dark blue-green
    fluorapatite
in a Harding pegmatite (quartz, feldspar, & muscovite).  See
daylight photos #4 & 5.  The Harding Mine is near Dixon, NM, & is now owned by the University of New Mexico.
    The fluorapatite glows
    yellow
    in short wave (photos #1 & 3)
    .
Using our Convoy S2 long wave flashlight, the fluorapatite also glows
    yellow
in photo #2.  Note: The spots of blue color in the LW photo are mostly the result of reflected light from the flashlight.
We visited the Harding Mine most recently in September 2015, and the mine entrances were closed off at that time.  Gail is standing in front of one of the mine adits with our "glo-hounds" Ellie (left) & Molly, in photo #6.  Ellie is a true rockhound - she likes to chase rocks that we toss away & bring them back to us!
    Weighs 8.6 oz. & measures 3.0 x 1.875 x 1.5 inches (#H-42).
